Project Requirements Gathering
This hands-on workshop addresses the issue of communication between areas
such as information systems departments and their business counterparts within
the organization. Specifically, this workshop gives students the skills
necessary to conduct information interviews in a confident manner, acquiring the
necessary project client requirements more accurately and with a collaborative
approach.
| Workshop Goals:
To enable participants to become better information interviewers so that
they can accurately and quickly extract requirements specifications from a
wide variety of sources.
By the end of this program, participants will be able to:
- Establish and maintain partnerships with those whose help they need
to do their jobs
- Know what to do and when during a one-on-one information gathering
interview
- Prepare confidently for a one-on-one discussion
- Open, conduct and close an information gathering interview
- Recognize different types of interviewees and react accordingly
- Use a variety of techniques to establish and maintain rapport
- Exercise control during a one-on-one business discussion

| Target Population:
Project managers and others who must work with others to gather
requirements specifications (such as systems and business analysts).
Participants are encouraged to attend with their project team and/or
business/IS/IT counterparts and work on real-life, current issues. |

| Demonstration mixed with small and large group
discussions, plus exercises in interviewing techniques aimed at increasing
participant confidence. Includes video-taped feedback, participant
notebook and bibliography. |
